Will regional WA be ready for electric vehicles?


With the phasing out of new petrol and diesel vehicles expected to begin in the not too distant future, it’s time to start asking questions about how that will affect regional Western Australia. Starting in 2020 and through 2021, we are conducting an electric vehicle pilot study which will provide the answer to some of those questions. But you probably have questions of your own. Ask your 2020 question below and we’ll do our best to answer it.

The 2020 EV Pilot Study

We’ve been running a pilot study throughout 2020 and 2021 to help us better understand how EVs will impact our electricity network and how people will use and recharge their vehicles.

Charging stations

As part of our pilot study, we’ve installed two EV fast chargers – one at each of our Esperance and Broome depots – and a charger at the homes of our two EV pilot participants.

The EVs

The electric vehicle we’re using for the pilot study is a fully electric Hyundai Kona which has a range of 449km. We’re hoping it will give us the answer to one of many 2020 questions.
